ABOUT

Jane Peacock lives and works in the Chiltern Hills, surrounded by beechwoods, flint and chalk.  Inspired by the land around her she creates dreamscapes; imagined, abstracted vistas full of dreams, caves, bones, memories and the suggestion of a bodily presence within the land. The geological evolution of the planet is explored, alongside a search for our ancestors within the changing landscape. These images often contain oblique references to the supernatural and vintage sci-fi.  Jane creates her richly coloured paintings, ink drawings, collages and prints in an unplanned, instinctive way, using automatic techniques and adding and removing layers throughout the process. In each image, Jane is searching for a sense of magic; attempting to reconnect with the ecosystems of which we are intrinsically part, to discover a shared imagination of subconscious imagery held across vast sweeps of time.

Jane was on the Turps Correspondence Course (2022–2023) and studied BA (Hons) Fine Art at Kingston University (1995-1998).  She is currently Artist in Residence at Wycombe Museum and is a founding member of the Fractured Land Collective.
